Been A While
Haven’t really had anything worth posting happen lately, plus I’ve been pretty busy with everything going on, so here is an update:
Wise, Young and King is officially out of prepaid studio time, so I guess we are slowing down. Doug’s parents said that they would pay for four more hours as a birthday gift to him, but then it’s finding the time that the other band members are available to get in. As said before, Bompf Bompf is the priority as the shoot for the music video is coming up. That’s where we stand right now.
School is going pretty good for me, and my attendance record is surprising (as I have a bad habit of not showing up for class, or sleeping in). I should definitely have all my high school credits before the March break is here. I’ve also found a one year course here at Algonquin - Pre-Music Production - that interests me. My long term plans are to go to Humber College in Toronto for music in the fall of 2008, so the Algonquin program would keep me busy next year.
Now for the touchy part; Thank you to everybody who has/plans to donate to the “Drum Kit Fund”. I’m extremely grateful. It means so much to me. As a matter of fact, I’m somewhat speechless. However, I refuse to link to it, because I feel that it would seem… well “greedy” is not the word, but something like that. It just wouldn’t feel right to me. On that note though, if you are considering donating, but have something that would make it more worth your while (eg. some form of work for me to do towards it), please let me know.
Other than that, I’ve been spending most of my time playing guitar. I’ve actually written a song, with lyrics. I’ve considered posting the lyrics here, but haven’t decided if I like them enough to post them. As far as they are concerned though, they are probably some of the best lyrics I’ve ever personally come up with, and the guitar riff that goes with them, is by far the best guitar playing I’ve ever done. Maybe I’ll get a cheep computer mic, and record an acoustic version of it. We’ll have to see.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Thanks for reading.

Hey… I just had a conversation with someone that gave me another idea
Ideas are good, huh?
She told me that you can buy a 8 or 16 track recorder for the price of good quality studio time. Recorders good enough for doing demos, etc. She just picked up a 4 track for 200.00 which she uses all the time for her own singing along with guitar instrumentals.
So… that might be a thought. And along with some open source mixing software….
Now, you’d just need to find a place to do it all.
But… it’s an idea worth thinking about, anyhow. There would be benefits - you wouldn’t have to “book” time anywhere, for one.

Oh, and my suggestion regarding the lyrics.. wait until you have a chance to record the song before you publish the lyrics.

Ah! Your dad is a smart man. I was gonna say the same thing about lyrics. Copyrights are funny things and you don’t want to throw a great idea out here for someone else to say ‘I wrote it first’.
… but I want to hear the song!
PS - again, and as usual, awesome drumming yesterday. Shades and all.

Dad, as I’ve previously stated with you; I would love to get a mixing board, and some recording software to do my own recordings. The problem is, that although it is cheaper in the long run, it’s the initial purchases that I straight up can’t afford. Plus, to run any of the software on my computer, I would certainly need to upgrade the RAM and possibly the harddrive. Oh, and good call with the lyrics. Thanks.
Barb, my Dad is a smart man! And by the way, try not to mention the shades… they are his.

Shades? Did I say shades? I meant, um … hat. Yeah, that’s it.
… or is that his too?

LOL… yeah.. my shades!!! And probably my hat too!

No Dad, the hat is Colin’s (my brother for other readers).
