The King Is Back

Jimmy King has returned from the west. The band had its first “full band” jam session since Jimmy left two months ago, on Thursday and it was to say the least; mindblowing. Therefore, the drive to make more music, and to finish the music we’ve started is even greater than ever. The new energy is exciting, and refreshing. Also, most of you know already (thanks to my Dad) that Wise, Young & King will be playing in Orangeville in July for the Founders Day weekend celebrations. More details like show times, dates and venues will be released once they are all worked out.

Regarding the bands studio work, we’ve had some rather large setbacks, as some of the drum tracks have been lost. So unfortunately we have to re-record the drum tracks unless they find them. This needs to be done for every song, and could take some time to do as well, since recording to a band is different than just playing out the song before the other tracks are laid down. I think that after we finish this demo, any future recordings will be done at a different studio, or we will learn how to do our own recordings. I’ve had some thoughts on the latter idea, and learning how to use recording software is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while. We would need to get a soundboard and microphones, and do some research into open source recording software for linux, as I would just use my laptop for recording and mixing. I think that in the long run, it would be much cheaper than constantly paying a studio to do the work. Something to look into though for sure.

They lost ALL the drumtracks?? Whoa…

  2. Alex Scott Says:

Well, technically, they only lost “mic tracks”.

A short explination of how recording works:

For every microphone, there is at least one ‘track’ that goes with it. For a drum set where every peice has its own seperate mic, there can be upwards of 12 mics on the set, therefore 12 tracks in a recording program.

The drum tracks that were lost in my case, happened to be the 18″ crash, the 16″ crash, the high-hats, and the snare. All of which are vital elements in songs, and it would actually take longer to record these things seperately, rather than to just re-record the entire drum parts.

You should save up and get the recording stuff that you need, It might take some time, but its sounds like it would save you a lot of money in the long run. You should try and figure out just how much it would cost for the entire package of equiptment. We could hold a bake sale… a brownie bake sale.. and go from there.

  4. Alex Scott Says:

Brit, you found my blog. I suppose all you had to do was check your computer history…

Yes, equipment would be good. Bake sales are good too… except we’d probably eat all the brownies before we sold them.

  5. Brit Says:

no one will eat the brownies on my watch. seriously though, you should look into getting the equiptment you need for recordings.. If you eventually got everything you need, then you could probably write a lot more with ease, considering you can mix the tracks and add tracks. I just reached the point where I dont know what Im talking about, But I do know that its a good investment and that it would be a lot of fun to have everything you need at your finger tips. you could be a lot more creative is my point im trying to make. Not that your not already creative, but how many times have you come up with a neat guitar rift or whatever and never played it again, If you had the right software and stuff, then you could instatly play it back, and add on at different times, as the music comes to you..
and of course, you’d let Brit use it. Not that Brit would know how to use it, but you could teach Brit. Brit thinks, you and Brit would be super cool in the process, Brit and you could make mixes and all kinds of cool stuff, including brownies..

Ok Im done with the talking in third person. Keep on rockin homie! and stay fly.
